The inspiration for the work I create comes from nature. From the cycles of life, death and rebirth. The cycles of nature, seasons and growth. The cycles of being a woman, and of the moon… I find the whole interconnection of this amazing and inspiring. The forms I create evolve from all that I see in nature, from the garden, from the earth, the sea and the creatures that dwell in them. All so strange, exotic and exquisite in detail, they take your breath away…

My creative outlet is in ceramics and recently concrete. I have chosen to focus on the themes of recycling, finding inspiration from seeing natural products in everything around us. The second theme is the body, I am acknowledging and accepting my body as another form for inspiration, looking at mind, body & soul holistically, I incorporate this into the sculptures.

The Techniques:

I use stoneware clay, hand building the vessel by slab method, the vessels are made with the gardener and plants in mind.

I create a sculpture both adding and subtracting to the form.

They are then decorated by hand, bisque fired, glazed and re-fired to stoneware temperature. This makes them frost-proof, and therefore suitable for the garden all year round.

The concrete sculptures are created by having my body cast in mod rock. This is then used as the mould. Concrete and fibreglass are added to create a thin piece, suitable for hanging. It is then sanded and a waterproof coating is added. This is frost proof, so is suitable for the garden all year round.
